Fieldwork in Benin

From March to October 2011, fieldwork was conducted in Benin by PhD students Diana Quiroz and Alexandra Towns, assisted by Dutch, French and Beninese students. The research team is greatly supported by the Herbier National du Benin at the University of Abomey-Calavi. Market surveys are carried out at the medicinal plant and fetish markets at Dantokpa, Gbedamey and Godomey (Cotonou), Calavi, Bohicon (Abomey), Porto Novo, Lokossa, Ouidah and Parakou. Interviews are held with traditional healers and Fa oracle priests, among others in Koko (near Bante) and with rural and urban women throughout Southern Benin on the subject of women's health and child care.
